What Makes Yoga in India Stand Apart from the West?

Yoga in the West often revolves around the physical body. In India, it is a sacred discipline of life, thought, and spirit..
At Patanjali International Yoga Foundation, we follow the ancient Himalayan tradition, where yoga means mental purification and soul awakening, not just body alignment.

What makes Indian Yoga special:

  • Yoga is lived — not performed
  • Chanting, fasting, meditation, and silence are regular practices
  • Right diet, behavior, and self-discipline shape the journey
  • Scriptures are studied as deeply as postures
  • Instructors serve as spiritual mentors
  • It is a path to self-realization — not self-presentation
“The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.” — B.K.S. Iyengar
